“Indefinite Blue”, Queens Museum of Art, 2003- 04 | ||||||||
The entire ceiling and the floor of the elevator have been covered with blue plexiglass mirror. There is one 8 foot fluorescent light in each corner which illuminate the space and underscore the vertical extension. Upon entering the elevator the viewer has the feeling as if walking into a bottomless space. The blue mirrors on the ceiling and the floor create infinite vertical reflections, transforming the usually very confined environment of the elevator into an endless illusion of space. While the elevator goes up or down, the viewer experiences a loss of orientation. One feels as if riding into infinity. |
